Even when in a coven, a Witch still has her personal practice. Most consider Wicca their priestess/priesthood and have altars or temples to the Lady or Lord they have an affinity with in their homes. I feel the same way. But most don't have the challenge I have adjusting what I learned of Wicca to my Solitary practice.
![]() Wicca is based upon a Moon Goddess/Sun God or Earth Goddess/Sky God-Nature God. That is what I learned in the Coven I was trained in. That is what I pass on to the majority of people who want to be taught. But the Lady I worship is a Sun Goddess and the Lord I worship is a Moon God. That is closer to a religion called Asatru than Wicca. (Asatru is a parallel path to Wicca, but there are differences in ethics and philosophy that I don't agree with.) So, I decided the ceremonies had to be adjusted.
![]() I held rituals or exercises at night and I still invited Them both into the circle. Wiccans call a Sun God in ritual when it isn't light out, so calling a Sun Goddess at night isn't that different. I still did all the things I was taught to honor the Goddess, and most of the symbols still apply. The Sabbat rites were always adjusted for the season anyway, so that didn't really have too much of an effect. But in honoring Her I found that a night circle wasn't always the ideal way. I found I have to devise observances for the daylight hours for daily rites and Sabbats. I am part way through that now, experimenting as I go along. I hope to have a Book of Shadows pertaining to a Wiccan Sun Goddess practice online for others to look at by Yule 1999.
