The Movie
Production began in Baltimore this past November on "Homicide: The Movie," an NBC Movie of the Week based on the award-winning former NBC series, "Homicide: Life on the Streets," in anticipation of being telecast February 2000. Also on board are the show's original executive producers, Emmy- and Oscar-winning writer/director Barry Levinson ("Wag the Dog," "Rain Man," "Diner") and Emmy-winning writer/producer Tom Fontana ("Oz," "St. Elsewhere").

"Homicide: The Movie," is a production of Baltimore Pictures and Fatima Productions in association with NBC Studios
The premise for the movie revolves around the shooting of one of the department's own, now-mayoral candidate Al Giardello, which reunites the detectives to search for the perpetrator. While a "stand-alone" movie for fans and non-fans alike, the movie answers unresolved questions from the show's final season. Pembleton returns from his new teaching career. Munch hops over from his new position in the New York Special Victim's Unit. And Bayliss reenters the scene in the middle of his sabatical. Tensions are high and shoulders are tense. The interactions between Pembleton and Bayliss are sublime. Anyone who didn't know that Tim Bayliss was responsible for Luke Ryland's execution wasn't paying attention. And while I was heartbroken at Tim's confession because it pretty much takes him out of future movies, the scene was intensely rewarding. The shot, at the end of Adeena Watson skipping through the shop was very creepy and just a little nervewracking. Still, the open chair leaves things open for the future. If you haven't, and you get a chance, watch this movie.
