Welcome to
I've decided to do something a little different this time. I'm sending the overview of this newsletter to all of you, but instead of sending the entire thing, I'm linking each individual subject to one main page on the website. There you can either browse the whole newsletter, or pick and choose specific topics more easily. Also, I'm adding some new things that were not included before. The POLL and trivia answers will be included here, as well a a segment dedicated to what has been added to Sacrosanctum: Where Vampyres Roam. As always, I look forward to your feedback.
Always, Marrah

The Soul of an Angel (Sisters of the Night) by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro
List Price: $24.00
Book Description
Young and beautiful, Fenice Zucchar lives in opulent splendor on the world's richest island. The pampered daughter of a wealthy and powerful owner of ocean-going merchant vessels, Fenice's soul yearns for the freedom of the sea--for the adventures and breathtaking sights and sounds that await her far from Venice, her velvet prison. Determined to flee, she feigns an audacious kidnapping and stows away on one of her brother's ships on the very eve of her own arranged wedding.
Reviews:Amazon.com
One of the most memorable scenes in Bram Stoker's dark classic, "Dracula," is the chilling apparition of the three "weird sisters"--a trio of intriguing beauties, all brides of the vampire lord himself. Little is disclosed about these once mortal women. Who were they before they were seduced into the dark castle, destined to live in Dracula's lair for eternity?
Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's fascination with the three brides inspired her to write a new vampire series, Sisters of the Night. Her first installment, "The Angry Angel," was an erotic and blood-tingling foray into an extremely black world, as Dracula claims his first companion, a young slave woman named Kelene. "The Soul of an Angel" introduces us to his second companion--the beautiful Fenice Zucchar. In her past life, Fenice was a European noblewoman. Bored within the confines of her privileged lifestyle, she yearned for adventure, excitement, and passion. So she stowed away on a ship--but was quickly discovered and banished from the vessel. Lost and alone on the streets of the coastal town of Varna, the innocent young woman is a perfect victim for Dracula, who desires a fresh young virgin. Fenice is overwhelmed by desire for this handsome demon who offers her the freedom and excitement she so craves. She follows him back to his gothic castle and is initiated into a grotesque new lifestyle. Yet it doesn't take her long to discover that another woman already occupies her lord's castle--and his heart. This makes for a bizarre and tempestuous relationship, and a rocky ménage à trois to say the least. Fans of "The Angry Angel" will quickly devour "The Soul of an Angel," and must now wait patiently for the third installment. --Naomi Gesinger

Oh what to say... This odd little film had a lot of charm. Its dizzing array of mindless, bloodlusty bimbos was rather staggering and a bit confusing as I couldn't manage to tell them apart most of the time. I liked the premise. I liked the two main characters, Michelle and Stephen. Although, the three-hundred-and-some-year-old vampire had absoultely no accent, which was a bit strange. The idea that Stephen took dying women as his "victims" was interesting, as it kept BOTH of them alive. Smart idea, fell a little short in the acting. The lines were sometimes too forced and didn't flow smoothly, but managed to remain appropriate to the situation. I especially liked the twist when Stephen discovers physical passion, ie. 'normal' sex, with Michelle because they have fallen in love. This releases a reaction in Stephen harem more, I think, because they are reacting to his love/lust, which they can only translate as bloodlust, being cut off from human emotions by their transformation. The tactic of transforming the vampire physically when in bloodlust/feeding state is not an uncommon occurrence in films and television, ie. the vampires in Buffy and Angel. The white/gray-ing of the hair and the pasty pale face of the vamped out characters is a cheesy, but effective, differentiating method. The movie's sketchy production value is typical of the classic 80's B-movie type. Nothing is precisely in focus and the images are all a little to dark to be seen well. I'm not sure if this detracts from the film or adds to its authenticity. My final vote - I liked it. Entertaining and different. --Marrah --
Daughter of Darkness by Steven Spruill
Reviews and Commentary
From Publisher's Weekly - Publishers Weekly:
*********************************************************************************
This is the sequel to Spruill's Rulers of Darkness which I have not read, and now do not feel as if I need to. So much of the plot of the first book was included to make sense of this one that I already know what happens and why. I ennjoyed reading about Jenn and her adventure, she is a believeable character, despite the mess of her prison escape. This bit was used to bring the book to its climax and push the story along, but was rather forced and b-movie-esque. While it is rather slow in the beginning, I think it was neccessary to make the transition between what her life was and what it becomes. The prose is attractive. The characters well developed. A few plot problems, which were more annoying than distractive, but nothing that causes enough of a problem to knock the reader out of the story wondering about it. I read it in one sitting - but don't take that as Gospel - I read THE STAND in one sitting too. :/
VVV - While not the absolute TOP of the genre, this title is worth the price of admission.

Dr. Jenn Hrluska is young, beautiful, and everyone's choice for best intern at Washington, D.C.'s Adams Memorial hospital. When she finds the freshly killed body of a stranger on her doorstep, her initial shock turns to an irresistible thirst for the blood surrounding the body, for Jenn is a hemophage: her life depends on feeding on the blood of "normals." Until now, Jenn has survived by transfusing blood from sleeping victims, harmlessly. With bone-chilling certainty, she recognizes that this body has been left as an invitation to reclaim her destiny of taking blood by deadly force. And only one person would have left the body for her - her father, Zane. Beginning with cruel pranks to remind her of his powers, Zane soon commits a murder that brings Jenn to the brink of exposure - or death. Unjustly imprisoned for murder, and facing the possibility of dying without a supply of fresh blood, Jenn decides she must escape and use her unearthly powers to defeat Zane once and for all.
The alloy of medical thriller and vampire chiller that Spruill forged in Rulers of Darkness (1995) proves not only strong but durable as this sequel reprises its predecessor's dramatic conflicts. Ten years have passed since detective Merrick Chapman buried his son, Zane, alive in a concrete vault to stop the murder sprees that threatened to disclose the family's curse of hemophagic leukemia, Spruill's clever medical term for vampirism. Zane's daughter Jenn, now a highly regarded intern at a D.C. hospital who's in a happy relationship with novelist Hugh McCall, controls her own vampirism by harmlessly siphoning blood from sleeping people. Suddenly, however, a series of pranks clearly intended to arouse her bloodlust reveals that Zane has escaped and is determined to use her as a pawn against her grandfather. With skill and subtlety, Spruill orchestrates several suspenseful challenges that force Jenn to walk the tightrope between divulging her true nature to unsuspecting human associates or throwing in her lot with her father. His credible rendering of supernatural beings as members of a dysfunctional family with conflicting ideas about how to manage their problems shows a delightfully oddball sense of topicality, yet he is never less than sympathetic and balanced in his portrayal. Despite several stray subplots and an ending that leaves the door open for further adventures for its hemophage heavies, this novel is that rare example of a sequel as memorable as its predecessor. This site is dedicated to the life, afterlife or un-life of the most feared night-dwelling female creatures of all times: The Vampiress.
This is what I am and what I've been for a very long time. You may choose to read my life story or my poetry, browse through my paintings and take a look at my background textures. Be assured that all is done in good taste, but I might be a bit shocking for some. That said, take note that my site is for mature readers and viewers only.
She obviously put a lot of work in to this site. The story of her life is massive, but as usual, there is no 'work of fiction' disclaimer and so we can not be sure that she doesn't mean what she says. Who am I to say it didn't happen exactly the way she says it did. I wasn't there. So, quality site, a bit different and deeper than the norm. Check it out.
VVVV Interesting site, take a look and judge for yourself!

THE GRAVE
by: Morgana
A doomed black sky lingering high above
Looming over the world like a towering tomb
Deep purple clouds hang heavily in the air
Threatening to spill their tears upon the crowd below
Mingling the cloud's tears with those of others
They're all here, the mourners
A solitude grave, surrounded
So many shrouded mourners
Such suitably black heavens
Is it a sign?
Is the sky black because it mournes?
Or is it hiding the guiding light from the grave?
Slowly, so slowly, they all leave
One by one, step by step
Across the wet grass
What lies beneath their black feet?
Does the grave lie alone among so many rolling hills?
Nothing but hills
Are there others?
Between the heavens and the earth
The furious lightning and the raging sea?
The earth begins to move, dirt rises
Deep from within another place
A muffled groan
Was that the wind?
The earth beneath the grass moves yet again
A hand, oh that hand
That hideous hand
Grey and distorted, like a bad dream
Soft wet dirt wedged deep beneath those cracked nails
Is that the remainder of a worm beneath that thumb?
The earth breaks apart like a volcano
Rupturing like a bursting inferno of dirt
A face, at least what's left of it, emerges forth
Partially crusted blood clings to the gashes
Stringy hair hanging in matted clumps
A shroud to hide that fleshy face
One eye is missing
Lips wildly contorted
What would the mourners say?
A body, barely human
Ruby flesh dangling from every limb
Stained rags barely adorning this half-naked corpse
It rises now
Stumbling unearthly towards those rolling green hills
What lies at the other end?
Is it heaven or hell?
Is it the sky? Or the raging sea?
Or is it simply a yurning for freedom
Not a place among the worms
Perhaps the sun will shine there, at the other end
This poor soul could find that guiding light
The hills can hold many secrets
Who will ever know?
The storm has set in
And the rain beats down like an angry fist
Somewhere roams a creature too hideous to bare
So hideously wandering the rolling hills
Searching... for God knows what?

Tattooed Ice-Cream Vendor Was Dreaded Vampire Rapist
MILAN, Italy: Known as "Dracula, in the double-breasted suit," a natty ice-cream salesman was accused of raping and biting the necks of more than forty women over a period of seven years when he made a court appearance in Milan in January of 1984.
Victims described how forty-year-old Renato Antonio Cirillo struck every two months, threatening his victim with a knife, tying her up, raping her, and finally biting her on the neck "vampire-style."
He was eventually brought to justice because several of the ice-cream Dracula's victims identified Cirillo as having a tattoo in a foreign language on his chest!
