Greetings one and all ! Welcome aboard this tour of Fort Canning Park, once known as the Forbidden Hill. Take some time to browse through these pages and get to know more about what The Chinese High School TDP Humanities did during their excavation tour with Dr John Miksic. Plus!! Get to know how Fort Canning relates to the story of our past and how excavation takes place.
Established in 1859 as an arms store, barracks and hospital, Fort Canning is now a park overlooking Orchard Road. It contains memorials of Singapore's early history dating back to the 14th century and Sir Stamford Raffles' personal bungalow. Look out also for the Spice Garden, a small replica of the original 19-hectare tract Raffles established in 1822 as the first experimental and botanical garden in Singapore. Fort Canning is also a popular venue for the arts, including sculpture exhibitions, plays and ballet under the stars.
