Magickal Tools:What they are & how they are used.(Just remember,u don't NEED tools to work magick, but they help a LOT as a focus, especially for the first few years!)

  Tools of the Trade(or Trad,grin)
THIS PAGE WILL BE GOING UP OVER THE NEXT 3 Days.SO bear with me,it takes a LOT of work to put one of these up!Grin.
Mostly a lot of typing around 3 am which is just about the only time i can get on the computer,giggle....BLessings,Lilliane13
Just a note first:U can buy most of your tools at used stores & garage sales,& check your Grandma's attic for that matter.U can make some too if u like.
ALTAR: a flat surfaced table,or rock,or whatever u like to use for casting your circle around,& where u welcome the God & Goddess with offerings of fruit & flowers,& have your tools.A sacred place for connection to Deity.(I use an old wooden microwave cart, because there is room for candles & incense underneath.)
ATHAME:a traditionally black or wood handled knife, for casting your circle,& holding power.Represents the Male GOd energy. Most believe it must be 2 sided, but it doesn't have to be.Some people use a sword, but i find this too big to fling around in the air while casting a circle.grin.
MOON ATHAME:I use a smaller athame for drawing down the moon on full moons, most just use the same one for all of it.
ALTAR CLOTHS:Pretty obvious,wouldn't u say?
BOLLINE:traditionally a white handled knife for cutting up herbs with a curved knife,a tiny scythe basically. Many use one, while some use their athame for this.
BOOK OF SHADOWS:the Book where u put all of your magickal knowledge & learning, traditionally hand written, but u can type it or print it up if u prefer. Many modern witches use simply a computer to store all of this knowledge,if u do,take my advice,BACK UP ON DISKS!!!grin,i speak from experience, sigh
BROOM:a very important item!U use it for cleansing the sacred space where u cast your circle, even if just drawing it over the space without touching the ground with the bristles. The best place to find these is used stores,or craft stores, any size is fine, from 1 foot high to 4.Many witches hang one over their doors for protection. Some say it must be round on the bottom where the bristles are,I don't think it matters, but if u want one round,& can't find one simply take the weaving of cord or straw(or whatever) out of it & it will be round at the bottom.U can have more than one,& some buy a new one every year.
CANDLES:yes u will definitely need candles! All colors for various spells, from votive size for spells & cleansing rituals to tapers for Diety,(gold or yellow is traditional for the God,& Silver or White is traditional for the Goddess)& the pillar type for anything else, for a representation of the Element Fire for example.I would buy these at a 99 cent store if u have one around u,u wouldn't believe what even K-mart is charging for candles nowadays!
CANDLE HOLDERS:All types,& make sure they catch the wax, decorative is great but u don't want to be stuck with big wax splotches on your altar cloths!
CAULDRON:These are traditional,& WONDERFUL to have, but very hard to find nowadays,& usually expensive when u do.I finally found one at a used store for 1.00 but i searched for 4 years!the Cauldron represents the Goddess,& her womb, the 3 legs are a representation of the Triple Goddess.
COMPASS:these are incredibly handy to have for calling the quarters & the elements,& for setting up your altar.
DECANTER:for holding your Blessed water. This is made from either spring water, melted snow,or tap water in a pinch, grin.U put it in a pot on the stove & add UNIODIZED Salt,Sage,& Mint tea flakes, boil it,coolit,& pour it in the decanter,or old wine bottle.U use this for all cleansing spells,to represent the Element Water on your altar during ritual or spell casting,by pouring a bit in your chalice.(I traditionally use the snow from the first snowfall in the season,& i have enough for a whole year! But we live in Oregon now, when we move to Las Vegas i will probably have to find a spring or something.)
CHALICE:the representation for the Element Water on your Altar. It can be of any substance, but copper always looks cool & shiny,& i would go to a used store for this.
INCENSE:there are many kinds to use,& traditional witches often use a brazier & powdered insense, but i think it is much easier to use cone incense,& a LOT cheaper, grin.(YES in case u haven't noticed I am a Witch with a budget!Grin)Various kinds are good for different moods,or spells.I always use Musk for rituals,& Jasmine for meditation or emotional spells,Sage for cleansing, pine for money,& dragons blood for added power in a spell. If I were u this is another item i would find at a 99cent store, they sell 20 cones or sticks for 99cents,as opposed to Magick supply stores that sells 6 cones for $4.00,grin.
