Numerology

The symbology of numbers is an ancient art with numerous roots, including the Egyptain and Arabic schools of magic, continuing through to the kabbalists, and even to Alistair Crowley's numerology which heavily borrowed from the kabbalists and the Egyptians.

However serious its origins, numerology (along with astrology) has become an increasingly popular mass-maket clairvoyant tool, palatable to those wishing for a quick-fix solution to understanding the mysteries of life.

To find your number, add together the numbers of your entire date of birth and reduce them to a single digit. So if, for instance, you were born on the 5th of July 1961, add 5 plus 7 (July is the seventh month of the year) plus 1961, which equals 1973; then add up the individual digits (1 plus 9 plus 7 plus 3 which reduces to 20, which in turn reduces down to 2 (2 plus 0).

Here is a brief summary of the nine numerology types.

1.
Intelligent, creative and unique - can be impatient. These people are learning independance in this lifetime. Loyal and responsible, they can  achieve greatness, but must overcome their tendency to undermine their own confidence.

2.
The peacemaker, the conciliator, the one who others turn to for wise advice. They are strong and independent, though they are cautious at times as they fear making a wrong move. They are kind and generous, but must learn to requlinquish the illusion of control. They thrive near the ocean.

3.
Sociable and friendly, the Threes are the wandering souls of numerology. They search for the inner meaning of situations and are attracted to eccentricity. They can be cruel in their dismissal of those they deem boring - they must learn to appreciate all types of people and to express themselves more gently, without compromising what they see as the truth.

4.
Analytical and razor-sharp of mind, these people can be extreme - either negative and brilliant, or positive and a genius. Because they do have excellent minds, they must be mindful of treating people like numbers in a equation to be pushed around until the right result is achieved. They can often be found in management or military. Through perseverance they can achieve great results in their chosen field, but they must also have an outlet for self-expression to avoid becoming emotionally blocked.

5.
Charming and flirtatious, number fives thrive in genial, harmonious atmospheres  and cannot tolerate vulgarity. They are generally optimistic and innovative thinkers. They bloom when travelling and can be viewed as quite eccentric as they tend to have an eclectic style and passion for difference. These people do not work well in confined, repetitive, safe jobs; they need freedom and a degree of excitement. They have a tendancy to be grumpy at times, and need a partner who will not let them get the upper hand and thus let their tyrannical streak emerge.

6.
The sign of the counsellor, family person and devoted partner. Sixes have high;y developed aesthetic sense and are the type to whom other people feel they can take a problem and get a sympathetic hearing. Despite their ability to counsel others, they are frightened of difficulties in their own lives and need to overcome this tendancy as it can make them weak and vacillating, agreeing for the sake of harmony and swallowing their anger, which can lead to illness.

7.
Archaeology, philosophy and history appeal to Sevens, as they love to delve into the unknown and are endlessly patient when it comes to unearthing information. Their minds are well honed and they are extremely patient. They can, however, be difficult in friendships and in love due to their extreme privacy about their feelings. But if they meet someone who appreciates their great qualities of intellect, understanding and humanitarian values, they will be tender partners with a lot to give.

8.
Dominating and controlling, eights have a good chance of becoming managers or field marshals, but do not always lead terribly creative or fruitful personal working or personal lives. But if they use their powers for good rather than for evil, they can be staedfast, loyal and inspiring. Many women who are Eights become police, or join the navy or army. They can be very blokey, and are immensely practical. They are terrific at planning and building their own homes and can be strict parents.

9.
These folks are deep! Nines cannot tolerate flippancy and get annoyed at what they view as empty, soulless soical encounters. They are often musicians, painters or artists of some sort, and they are highly intuitive and spiritual. They are also judgemental and can be over-sensitive to their surroundings. They must take care who they spend time with as they ar physically highly tuned and can easily get sick. They crave passion but they equally desire freedom, a difficult combination to make work. They are often extremely generous, and over-indulge in alcohol and other drugs.

Years also have a vibration. You  can discover your current year by adding together the day and month of your birth and adding to that the current year.
