Invoking Deity

Invoking Deity One of the questions I see often on mailing lists is, "How do I invoke the God/dess
for ritual?"
The first step to invoking Deities in your Circle is to decide which Deities to
invoke. You can find a correspondence in the back of most Witchcraft books, so that
you can match your intent with the Deity you invoke. Or perhaps you have a Patron
Deity that you call regularly.
The next thing you need to do is to research that God or Goddess. Most
correspondence tables don't give enough information to invoke a mouse. Pull out
your mythology books, go to the library, search the Web. Look for stories and myths
about the God or Goddess you plan to invoke.
Do a meditation/visualization. Ask to meet the God/dess you plan on invoking. Talk
to Her/Him, watch Her/Him.
Sit down with a piece of paper and a pen and free associate about that Deity. List
adjectives that describe Him/Her, list objects or events that pop into your mind.
When you're done, use the free association to compose a short poem (rhyming or not).
Don't worry about how "good" it is. The point isn't to win an award for the poetry.
Read it out loud to see how it sounds to your ears. Does it evoke the God/dess in
your mind? Does it bring back the vision you had of Him/Her in your meditation?
Work on it until it does.
Now do the same with the other Deity (it's a good idea to stick to the same pantheon
in a ritual, at least at first).
And there you have an invocation that will work for you in ritual.

NOTE FROM US-------we pulled this off of the net somewhere, if it belongs to you
(you wrote it) please let us know so we may give you credit for it!!! And maybe someday we will be able to put into words how we invoke our deities :-)
