This is a list of the most common terms used in Wicca and their meanings. This is by no means all of them, but it is alot of them.
Akasha: A Sanskrit term borrowed by Helen Blavatsky to represent universal life form
Akashic Records: Records that are kept on the astral plane of each and every human life and of all our past lives
Astral Body: The form that is used to travel through the astral dimension
Altered State of Consciousness: When a person slips from the everyday conscious state of awareness into the slower cycles of brainwave activity.
Amulet: A magically charged object which deflects negative energies
Astral Energy: the inexaustable supply of etheric energy found on the astral planes
Astral Plane: The plane that interpenetrates and reflects our physical plane but operates on a higher frequency
Astral Projection: Projecting the astral body out of its usual position by the physical body. This form is then used to move around the astral plane or to other locations within the physical plane
Athame: (pronounced ath-ah-may) a Wiccan ritual knife. Usually with a double edged blade and a black handle
Aura: The electro-magnetic field of energy that surrounds all matter
Bane: That which destroys life, which is poisonous, destructive or dangerous
Beltane: A pagan festival celebrated on May 1st. Beltane is also known as May Eve, Roodmas, Walpurgis night and Cethsamhain. Beltane celebrates the symbolic union between between the Goddess and the God. Besom: An old name for a broom
Bi-location: To be in two places at the same time, when the astral body is seen or felt in one location whilst the physical is active in another.
Bolline: A white handled knife used by Wiccans for practical purposes such as the harvesting of herbs
B.O.S. Book Of Shadows: The personal book ( magical diary) kept by Witches accounting rituals, spells, chants, magical lore and incantations. The personal journey and experiences of growth are also accounted here.
Chakra: From the Sanskrit term to mean "wheel of light". The chakras refer to the seven energy centres in the body
Chi: Chi is the universal force of energy that flows through all matter
Clairaudience: Intuitive hearing, perceiving messages either as an inner or an outer sound
Clairsentient: Intuitive feeling or knowing. Sometimes this can include the ability to perceive odours, tastes, emotional feelings or touch
Clairvoyant: Intuitive sight or vision. Percieving images through inner sight. More advanced clairvoyants are able to perceive spirit beings, not physical entities or auras
Colour Therapy: To heal by using certain colours to treat certain illnesses and diseases
Conscious mind: The analytical, rational part part of consciousness
Coven: A group of Wiccans generally numbering up to thirteen. Usually intiatory and led by one or two people
Deosil: To move clockwise
Discarnate: An entity without physical body
Divination: Using tarot cards, crystal balls, runes, I Ching, dowsing , smoke, tea leaves flames etc in order to see into the future
Doppelganger: The double of the physical on the astral
Element: The astral-psychic building blocks of all physical and astral matter: Earth, Air, Fire, Water
Esbat: A wiccan ritual, usually occurring on the Full Moon
Ethereal/ etheric: Belonging to the astral plane
Feng Shui: Literally means "wind and water" Feng shui is the Chinese art of placing objects in harmony with the earths enviroment and energy lines
Handfasting: A Wiccan, Pagan or Gypsy wedding
Imbolc: Wiccan festival celebrated on february 2nd. Also known as candlemas, Lupercalia, Feast of Pan, Feast of Torches, Brigits's Day. Imbolc celebrates the first stirrings of spring and the recovery by the Goddess from giving birth to the Sun
Incarnate: A spirit with a physical body
Incubus, Incubi: Male astral entities who try to engage in sexual activities with humans
Intuition: The ability to gain knowledge without logical thinking
Kahuna: A practioner of the old Hawaiian philosophical, scientific and magical system
Karma: The positive and/or negative debt gained by actions in a physical body and carried from one life time into another until the "debts" are paid
Kirlian Photography: Special photography which shows the aura surrounding humans animals and plant life.
Lammas: A Wiccan festival celebrated on August 1st. Also known as Lughnasadh, August Eve, Feast of Bread. Lammas marks the first harvest, when the fruits of the Earth are harvested, and the God weakens as the days grow shorter
Megalith: A huge stone monument or structure.
Menhir: A standing stone
Out of Body Experiences (OOBEs): Experiences of travelling within the astral body on the astral plane
Pagan: From the latin paganus, country-dweller. today used as a general term for the followers of Wicca and other magical, shamanistic religions
Pendulum: A divinatory device consisting of a string attached to a heavy object
Polarity: The concept of equal opposite energies. The eastern yin/yang is a perfect example . Yin is cold; yang is hot
Precognition: Knowing that an event will take place before it actually occurs
Prophecy: Predicting future events
Psychic attack: To be attacked by astral entities, by another human who is astral travelling or by another human who is using negative thought or magick against you
Psychic Centres: The chakras
Psychometry: Reading the vibrations of an object in order to divine things about its owner or of the objects history
Receptive hand: The left hand in right handed persons and the right in left handed persons. This is the hand through which energy is received into the body
Reincarnation: To return after physical death , by birth, into another physical body
Runes: Stick like figures, some of which are remnants of old Teutonic alphabets. Others are pictographs
Samhain: Wiccan festival celebrated on October 31st. Also known as November Eve, Hallowmas, Halloween, Feast of Souls, Feast of the dead, feast of apples. Samhain marks the symbolic death of the Sun God and His passing into the "land of the young" where he awaits rebirth of the Mother Goddess at Yule.
Scrying: To see into the future or the past
Shaman: A man or woman who has obtained knowledge of the subtler dimensions of the earth, usual through periods of altered states of consciousness
Silver cord: The connecting line of energy between the astral and physical bodies
Succubus / Succubi: Female astral entities who try to engage in sexual activities with humans
Talisman: An object charged with power to attract a specific force or energy to its bearer
Telekinesis: The moving of an object without touching it by using the power of the mind
Telepathy: The sending and receiving of messages by the mind
Third eye: The astral "eye" - chakra - connected with the brow centre in the middle of the forehead
Visulisation: The process of forming mental images
Wicca: A contemporary Pagan religion with spiritual roots in Shamanism and the earliest expressions of reverence of nature. Amongst its believes are reverence for the Goddess and the God, reincarnation, ritual observations of the Full Moon and the seasons.
Widdershins: To move in an anti - clockwise circle
Yule: Wiccan Festival celebrated december 21st marking the rebirth of the Sun God from the Earth Goddess.
