Duchovny's Signature Suit

David Duchovny has decided he isn't just going to sign his life away. The X-Files star is looking to uncover the truth about the lucrative celebrity collectibles market, filing suit against an Internet company he claims is selling photos of him with a fake signature, says the New York Post. A hearing on the matter is scheduled for today in Los Angeles Federal Court.

The dad-to-be claims that Truly Unique Collectibles has been offering his photograph for sale at a bargain basement price of $50 (Mel Gibson goes for $110) with a forged signature. Duchovny and former Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman star Dean Cain filed separate lawsuits this year against Truly Unique after ordering pics from the company.

"Mr. Cain and Mr. Duchovny looked at the signatures and immediately knew they were signed by someone else's hand," says Duchovny's lawyer Farhad Novian.

Attorneys for Truly Unique deny any wrongdoing, and submitted authentication papers for the signed pictures into court records. The company has asked for the suit to be dismissed.

According to the Post, Duchovny and Cain are truly unique among the Hollywood elite: They're among the first to take legal action against the forged signature trade.
