Gillian To replace Jodie In Hannibal
If Jodie Foster won't be playing FBI cannibal huntress Clarice Starling in Hannibal, who will?
Foster's publicist Jennifer Allen has confirmed Tuesday's Variety article that stated the twice-Oscared actress was passing on the Silence of the Lambs sequel. Her abdication leaves not only a juicy part up for grabs, but puts the entire project in jeopardy. Without a suitable female lead, it's likely Anthony Hopkins will also bail on the sequel.
Which actress could save the film? Cinescape reports that X-Files fan sites are buzzing that a certain redhead who's already had years of experience playing a federal agent will take on the job. Yes, speculation is high that Gillian Anderson, AKA Dana Scully, will step into Foster's shoes.
But would Anderson, who's frequently expressed her weariness with the long-running sci-fi series, pick a feature film so close to her TV image? She's already had her Silence of the Lambs-type moments on the Fox show, most notably in the standout episode "Beyond the Sea," in which she confronts a Lecter-esque serial killer who forms an emotional connection with her, and not her usually more credulous partner Mulder.
If producers can't lure Foster or Anderson, they might want to reconsider a
bankable actress mentioned for Clarice the first time around: Michelle Pfeiffer.
