What is Wicca?
Wicca is a very nature based religion with many facets of practices within each single practitioner. Wicca and the other paths within Paganism mean many things to different people. Some worship a pantheon of Gods, Goddess, or a mixture of the two, others only worship one deity. There are some basic similarities though. The biggest being: do what you want to as long as you hurt no one. Of course many people twist that and read their own interpretation into that. A big piece of advice on how to interpret that: Any path you chose may not seem to hurt another in the initial offset however it can lead to hurting others in the future. Base decisions and actions on thought, think things through to make sure it will not ended up hurting another. This leads me to another similarity…the three-fold law. Whatever actions you take come back to you times three. This means if you hurt someone be ready for it to happen to you times three. Wicca has a very fascinating and colorful history I do suggest you finding some books on its history. The third similarity is the belief in reincarnation and karma. All Pagan religions believe that knowledge and the process of learning empower us. With each life that we live on this earth we learn and grow, becoming more powerful. The actions we take in life affect what we return as when we die and come back.
Can I be Christian and be Wiccan?
Okay folks this is a difficult question. Many say not. I myself do not agree. Within many articles and books, I have read on Wicca it says any witch can chose their pantheon of Gods/Goddesses and whether it is just one God/Goddess. Within our philosophy, it says that although there are three goddesses in some sects, that many times it is one deity with three separate facets. Who is to say that the God that Christians worship is not the same Deity that we worship as well. Being Christian and Wiccan is a possibility in my eyes as long as you follow the basic laws. Moreover, within the laws of Christianity themselves if you follow them you would be following the basic laws in Wicca. So if you feel that there is one God the Christian one and you like the ways of Wicca because it is nature based then do as ye will but harm none. Also a note to my fellow Pagans who are not Christian, we are constantly ridiculed for following a different path. None of us likes the fact our path usually has to be hidden from work family and friends. Well extend to the Christian Wiccans the same sort of treatment we give to each other and want to be treated ourselves. Do not tell these people that their path is wrong or not possible all of us choose a path that works the best for us. None of us is right and none of us is wrong we are merely individuals following the path we are guided to by the greater deity (ies). So please extend the same respect that you want from others.
