"All this talk and turmoil and noise and movement and desire is outside the veil; inside the veil is silence and calm and peace"
-- Abu Yazid Al-Bistami

New! Raven's own Occult book collection.

What we cannot see, what we cannot prove with our limits of modern science and technology is real. We call Magick what science refuses to acknowledge and understand.

Everyone, whether they know or realize it, is psychic. Some have more natural ability at it that others, just like anything else in life. The key is patience in all disciplines, and this one is no exception. No one, no matter who they are or how smart they are, can get this knowing by picking up a book, or from an amulet or magickal object, or much of the bullshit that one reads about in Fantasy and SciFi novels. Nor will brewing "magic" herbs and saying an incantation do much except through the power of your own mind. The outer movements of ritual are there because human minds learn and read in symbols, and symbolic gestures, which have ancient, learned ancestral meanings no language can convey. The knowledge is learned, step by step, by living it, by being it. I cannot teach you. No one can teach you. Only you can teach yourself. You must live it. It is inherent in every one of us. I can only tell you where to find it. It is inside.

What is dark? Dark, not as in evil but not white and fluffy, as in some magicks.

There is white, which is most wiccans and christians. White is doing good for others. White is watching out for others, doing the valiant and kind thing towards others, but can also mean animals or the environment, and any sentient being. White also means denying yourself (for the "greater good").

And there is black, which is usually Satanists. Putting yourself first, doing what you feel you should. You are your own god. You are living this life not for someone else, after all.

I'd like to think that people who consider themselves black are responsible in their actions, but there are always going to be those who are not. This, however, goes for those who consider themselves white as well. Sometimes, good intentions CAN hurt those who are supposed to be helped. And sometimes, cruel intentions CAN have a positive effect on people as well. It all depends. I believe some people deserve cruelty. I am not usually cruel; I go out of my way often to be kind. But I, like everyone else, have the capacity for cruelty as well.

Evil tries to destroy all that doesn't agree with it along with that which it doesn't understand. Not to point fingers, but does this sound like any particular religious group to you? Not that I am without blame...

Then there is dark. I don't consider myself human except my physical body is, of course, human; my soul is not human. I am seen as a kind person; I am sensitive to others' feelings and emotions, and make an effort to treat others kindly. So in this sense I am white. But there is another side to me, which is not often selfish, but contains a deep, dark energy which scares most other people. I enjoy some kinds of pain. I can take other's energy, I have the ability but refrain from using it (usually) if it will harm them, or unless it is given. Dark is neither white nor black, neither good nor evil.

I prefer to delve into the unconsciousness, the underworld of the soul. I have experienced several psychic deaths, and have enjoyed spiritual "rebirths" at each one. I have experienced the joy and pain of my own birth and the suffering and final relief of death. I have looked into the face of Death, and have found everlasting Life waiting for me on the other side. I AM immortal, for no soul can die. I consider myself immortal since not only do I wholly believe in past lives, but I remember many of them. Death is my friend. When you make death a familiar face, nothing will cause you fear. Fear is vanquished from my soul. I do not like to suffer in prolonged pain, but find solace and comfort in some pain. It breathes fire into my soul.

I did have some negative things to say about Satanists, and I'd like to make a point that I was wrong. I do not consider myself the ultimate authority on ANYthing, and this is no exception. My opinions are just that. They are valid, but it doesn't make them right or wrong. A vampyre friend is a Satanist and after reading her page and checking out the Church Of Satan site I must say I was surprised and pleased. I, like many others out there, did not understand what Satanism was all about, and while I do not agree with EVERYTHING they had to say, they do have some very valid beliefs, which are not to be discounted or dismissed. I realize now that many of my own beliefs can be considered Satanic. I feel the same way about most "religions" or belief systems, including Witchcraft, Shamanism, Buddhism, even xians. They all have something valid to say, but I do not agree with 100% of any of it. That is why I guess you could call me eclectic! Or, if you prefer, weird. :)

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious.
