The Greek Pantheon

 

The Olympian Gods and Goddesses:

Zeus- The supreme deity; a sky god who wields the thunderbolt; dispenser of justice.

(Hera and Nike)

Hera- Wife/sister of Zeus, of whom she is violently jealous; Goddess of marriage; She experienced widespread worship throughout Greece.

Athena- Goddess of wisdom, war, and crafts; the patron deity of Athens.

Aphrodite- Goddess of love and beauty; a pre-Olympian deity, she was born from the sea; one of the original Titans.

(Athena, Pandora, Hephaistos)

Hephaistos- God of forging and metalwork

Apollo- Youthful God of music, of ritual purity and oracles; as the god Phoebus Apollo, he is associated with the sun.

(Artemis slaying a fawn)

Artemis- The huntress, sister of Apollo, she is a nature deity associated with the moon; she is also a deity of death and childbirth.

Hestia- The ancient Goddess of hearth and home

Dionysis- God of wine and drama

Demeter- Goddess of grain, whose morning for Persephone, her daughter, brings the winter, and with whose return from the Underworld comes the spring.

Persephone- Goddess of death and rebirth: wife of Hades

Hades- God of the Underworld

(Ares)

Ares- A God of war.

Hermes- Messenger of the Gods and the carrier of souls to the Underworld; he is also the God of shepherds and herdsmen.

Poseidon- God of the oceans and earthquakes; he is also the God of horses.

Mnemosyne- Goddess of memory

Nemesis- Goddess of retribution and justice

Morpheus- God of dreams

Hypnos- God of sleep

Moira- Goddess of fate who has more power than any other Olympian God, including Zeus.

The Moirae- These goddesses control the destiny of everyone who is living. Klotho, the spinner, spins the thread of  life, Lachesis, the apportioner, decides how much time is allotted to each person, and Atropos, the inevitable, cuts the thread of life. These goddesses caused fear in the Gods because everyone were subject to the whims of these three, even the immortal.

Eros- God of love.

Nyx-Goddess of the night.

 

This is, by no means, a complete list of all the Gods and Goddesses, but just some of the more well-known ones.
